Non-urgent escalation pathway (Associate Handbook)

Audience: Associates
Goal: Provide a clear pathway for non-urgent concerns that still require timely consultation and support.

Core principle

When in doubt, escalate early. If the issue becomes urgent/safety-related, follow the urgent pathway:

1) Clinical uncertainty (non-urgent)

If you are uncertain about clinical direction, formulation, treatment planning, or how to proceed:

  • Please book a supervision session with Katherine within 1 week, or before the next session with the concerning client (whichever comes first).

2) Boundary concern (time-sensitive)

If you have a boundary concern (potential, perceived, or active boundary issue):

  • Please email Katherine and clearly note that it is a boundary concern.
  • Every effort will be made to book a supervision session within 2–3 days.

3) Ethical question (time-sensitive)

If you have an ethical question or potential ethical issue:

  • Please email Katherine and clearly note that it is an ethical question.
  • A supervision session will be booked as quickly as possible, typically within 24–72 hours.

4) Admin/operations concern (non-urgent)

If you have an admin/operations concern:

  • Please email Katherine with the concern.
  • Katherine will respond within an appropriate timeframe.

Please include (minimum necessary):

  • your name
  • category: clinical uncertainty / boundary concern / ethical question / admin concern
  • urgency/timing: next session date (if relevant)
  • a brief, factual summary
  • what support you are requesting (supervision call, quick guidance, coordination)

Please avoid client identifying information in email where possible (see privacy expectations). If clinical details are needed, use clinic-approved workflows.
